What you are seeing is pretty clearly a kernel bug, and not a bug in e2fsprogs. So a few questions, if you don't mind: 1) Are you still seeing the problem with a newer kernel? What's the latest kernel have you tried? 2) After the failure, have you tried fixing the file system using e2fsck -f? What problems, if any, did e2fsck find? 3) Are you using selinux, or are you using extended attributes or ACL's in your file system? (There was a bug fixed a while back that involved races in code when both xattr's and checksums were in use.) Many thanks, - Ted
