Thanks for your interest in Sugar! The reason for not registering with the alternatives system is that the interfaces are unusual: Sugar-session tracks the session but differently from how other environments do it so you cannot replace other session managers with that of Sugar. Similarly it acts as a window manager for Sugar activities but cannot serve as a "general purpose" window manager. Reason the package provides the virtual x-session-manager package is that it does satisfy the needs of recommendations by login managers and xinit. If you have suggestions for handling the situation better, or am aware of problems with the current approach, please share them. Otherwise would you mind me closing this as a non-bug?
