Note that this is woody version while our current stable is sarge.

But these are sarge versions, using the new dictionaries system.

I have tried to reproduce that with emacs 21.4a-1 (current stable), ispell
3.1.20.0-4, idutch 0.1e-35 and dictionaries-common 0.25.12, but I got no
error. I do not expect emacs21 21.2-1 to behave differently, but may be the
ranges were not allowed there.

Another possible reasons I can think:
 - Have you any Dutch entry in your ~/.emacs file?
 - Have you run out of disk space recently?

I am cc'ing idutch maintainer because I think this bug, if confirmed,
belongs there.
