You are the one who wants to change the status quo, as well as impose an additional restriction that is not present in any other Linux distribution, including Sarge, or any other Unix[-lookalike] I tested. In my opinion, that makes the burden of proof lie on you. And «I believe [...]»-argumentation is NOT good enough. LaMont has cited RFCs supporting his (and my) opinion.
