mtpfs stopped working in Jan 2012 due to some unrelated change elsewhere (#654939), and no one bothered to fix it during all those years. Considering that a functioning alternative (jmtpfs) exists, it's probably time for it to go. It has a surprisingly high popcon (989) but a small vote (93), I'd guess it's due to users in wheezy when the package still worked.
