This is probably because the devices are not known in Sarge's version of discover. As the upcoming Etch Beta2 version of d-i uses udev to load device drivers, this should be solved in current versions of the installer. > - As I was upgrading my machine, rather than installing from scratch, > I wanted to preserve some partitions, specifically /scratch and > /scratch/Film. I've tried to reproduce this scenario in the current version of the installer and the message I get is: The attempt to mount a filesystem with type ext3 in SCSI1 (0,0,0), partition #4 (sda4) at /scratch/Film failed. You may resume partitioning from the partitioning menu. Do you want to resume partitioning? <Go Back> <Yes> <No> Specific enough I would say. Choosing No (default) results in a fatal error. Choosing Yes or Go Back results in the partitioner being restarted. The weirdest thing is that this message and the relevant code have not changed since the Sarge release... Unless you can reproduce the problem and can give us the _exact_ error message, I'm inclined to close your report. Cheers, FJP
