in Jessie's version of the REPL, it is possible to edit the current line and recall the previous lines using the arrow keys. This does not seem to be possible anymore with the versions in Stretch and Sid, which give the following messages when entering the REPL. You may want to `zef install Readline` or `zef install Linenoise` or use rlwrap for a line editor The `zef` program does not seem to be distributed in Debian.
