Package: sdcc Version: 3.4.0+dfsg-2 Severity: wishlist The --use-non-free option for sdcc do not work, making it impossible to use sdcc to compile code for PIC devices. I wanted to use it to compile the firmware for the TellStick Net devices, available from <URL: https://github.com/telldus/tellstick-net >, which require PIC18 support.
I notice from the changelog that this is a consious choice by the package maintainers implemented in the 01_disable_non-free patch to solve <URL: https://bugs.debian.org/597933 >. While investigating I discovered that the problem is also reported in Ubuntu as <URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sdcc/+bug/1077918 >. It would be great if someone made non-free version of the sdcc compiler or a non-free package with these non-free headers/libraries. -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen
