Package: mate-desktop

Installed Stretch via netinst on an Intel desktop. Selected mate and ssh server as software to install in the Stretch installer. After install get logon screen with user and password box and bar across to with system name, date/time and some icons on the right. Login as root but get a blank desktop. Debian wallpaper, no icons, taskbar or menu across the top of screen. Mouse pointer is shown and moves. Left-click with mouse nothing happens. Right-click with mouse gives menu box. Ctrl-Alt-Del allows shutdown/reboot dialog. Login as user get the same, ie Debian wallpaper and a mouse pointer only.

Can access machine via ssh without issue.

Reinstalled Debian Jessie using its netinst with same software however updated kernel to 4.9 from Jessie backports. Mate desktop v1.8 displays correctly.

Hardware: Asus H170-Pro motherboard with Intel core i7-6700. Graphics identify as HD Graphics Skylake GT2. Monitor is a Dell E2210. Keyboard and mouse plugged in via USB.

It would be interesting to know, what MATE relevant package you have actually installed on the problematic machine and which are missing...

Please send output of:

dpkg -l "*caja*"

and

dpkg -l "*mate*"

btw... I use MATE on an Intel GPU without problems.

Thanks,
Mike
