My two cents: 1) People can still install from unstable, so it does still provide a purpose, so long as the package stays up-to date to follow changes.
2) The flash plugin also seems quite unstable and yet we have that in stable, I have lost track of how many times I have gone into firefox and seen the error message that it has blocked flash because of security, and no update available from the debian package, sometimesI have waited weeks for the update to make its way through to debian...
