Package: firefox-esr
Version: 52.2.0esr-1~deb8u1

After upgrading my stable Debian install to firefox 52.2.0esr-1~deb8u1, firefox
will no longer start up for me. It repeatedly crashes. I can't start it in
safe-mode. And even telling it to start with ProfileManager doesn't work. The
problem doesn't appear to be profile related. When I start it from the command
line, I get the following output before receiving the error popup:

$ firefox

(firefox-esr:5793): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion
'object->ref_count > 0' failed
ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 5815
ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child
ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal...

The popup I receive every time is the firefox error box. It reads: "We're
Sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and
windows when it restarts. To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send
us a crash report. . ."

If I tell it to restart firefox, I get the same result, every time.

Downgrading to firefox 45.9.0esr-1~deb8u1 returns Firefox to a working install.
 Re-upgrading to the latest version again produces the problem.
