1st of all I agree that we should be as close to the default Debian image as we can and we should generate those host keys as well.
I don't think I'll be able to do much work before Stretch release, so I'm even less confident that I should ask for freeze exception. But I'm pretty sure we can push patched version after Stretch release with proposed-updates.
