The package softhsm2 does not create the directory "tokens" in "/var/lib/softhsm". Soi, just after the installation, I get: $ softhsm2-util --init-token ERROR: Could not initialize the library. and: $ strace softhsm2-util --init-token [...] openat(AT_FDCWD, "/var/lib/softhsm/tokens/", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [...] $ dpkg -L softhsm2 /. /var /var/lib /var/lib/softhsm /usr [...] A simple: $ mkdir /var/lib/softhsm/tokens solved the problem. Please include an empty directory "/var/lib/softhsm/tokens" in the package.
