Hunspell has one huge disadvantage - it doesn't provide shared library.
And API for using from external applications is somewhat limited as well
- how can I get the list of supported languages for example? Ie. what
dictionaries are installed?

So, there is two options - maintain the copy of hunspell (like OOo does)
or use hunspell binary. Both options are ugly. See
http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdelibs/kspell2/plugins/ how easy is to
implement spelling with aspell and how many ugly code is there for
ispell.
