The upstream bug report suggests that this bug renders mcelog non-functional. Wouldn't that make this bug at least important ("a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package"), if not grave, "makes the package in question unusable or mostly so"? I'm seeing the same issue in Jessie with the jessie-backports kernel (4.9.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.18-1~bpo8+1 (2017-04-10) x86_64 GNU/Linux).
