Package: libticables3 Version: 3.9.6-5 Severity: important (Note: This may actually be a bug in TiLP. If so, please reassign accordingly.)
I'm trying to use a SilverLink with the stock linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 package version 2.6.14-7. (I'm using fglrx drivers for ATi hardware acceleration, and they don't support 2.6.15 yet.) Following the instructions in README.Debian, I have udev installed. It seems that my kernel does not have the tiusb kernel module, so I did not add that to the blacklist. In any case, after plugging in the cable, I get [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsmod | grep tiusb [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Finally, I have added myself to the tilp group and even gone so far as to reboot to make sure my correct permissions are active. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ groups espeoneefi adm dialout cdrom floppy audio src video plugdev nvram tilp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ However, when I try to tell TiLP to use a SilverLink to connect to either my TI-89 or my TI-83, it gives me an error dialog with the following message: "Msg: you don't have permissions for reading/writing the node. Cause: others does not have r/w access or you are not in the group." The log of the connection attempt reads as follows: ticables: getting method from resources (automatic): ticables: check for tiusb usability: ticables: using devfs: no ticables: node /dev/tiusb0: does not exists ticables: => you will have to create the node. ticables: warning: can't use IO_TIUSB ticables: check for lib-usb usability: ticables: usb filesystem (/proc/bus/usb): mounted ticables: node /proc/bus/usb/devices: exists ticables: permissions/user/group: -r--r--r-- root root ticables: is user can r/w on device: no ticables: are others can r/w on device: no ticables: is the user 'espeoneefi' in the group 'root': no ticables: => you should add your username at the group 'root' in '/etc/group' ticables: => you will have to restart you session, too ticables: warning: can't use IO_LIBUSB ticables: err: unable to find an I/O method. ticables: list of settings: ticables: cable: SilverLink ticables: port: USB port #1 ticables: method: unknown ticables: device name: /dev/ttyS1 ticables: delay value: 1 Now, I'm pretty confused. It seems strange that the driver is trying to open a file r/w whose default permissions seem to be read-only by everyone. (As a side note, suggesting that the user add himself to the group root is rather interesting...) -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages libticables3 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.5-12.1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.11-4 userspace USB programming library Versions of packages libticables3 recommends: ii udev [hotplug] 0.084-3 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
