Refer to a bug report #351263 for mutt A number of people accessing dovecot-imap (on sarge) using the latest version of mutt /1.5.11+cvs20060126-1 can access their mail headers but not the actual messages. The upstream maintainer, Brendan Cully, has reported: This is a known bug in dovecot's IDLE handler (fixed in CVS, I believe). Unset imap_idle to work around it. I couldn't see reference to this bug and so thought I ought to report it.
