Dear Maintainer,

When opening emacs from the GNOME Activities Overview by typing "emacs",
the two icons corresponding to both "GNU Emacs 24 (Terminal)" and "GNU
Emacs 24 (GUI)" appear as identical. This happens because their labels
are longer than what GNOME displays. The user has to use trial and error
to open the version of emacs that she wants and that's frustrating.

A solution would be to shorten these labels.

For example, displaying only "Emacs 24" instead of "GNU Emacs 24" would
make "(Term..." appear:

Or maybe better, displaying only "Emacs" (most other software don't
display their version number in these icons) would make "(Terminal)"
appear fully:

A workaround for frustrated users is to type "emacs gui" to display only
the version they want:
