retitle 859311 -D date is not set automatically according to locale
severity 859311 minor
thanks

Hello Steve,

this just came in to the Debian BTS, cf.

I'm not sure where tree stands with regard to this issue:

On the one hand, it is not unreasonable for a user to expect their
locale to be automatically respected. Following this view, this issue
would be present, albeit of minor severity as it only affects a single
suboption.

On the other hand, tree already offers the --timefmt option so users can
format the date as desired. Following this view, this issue might be a
wontfix, or might perhaps just warrant adding a pointer in the manpage,
mentioning --timefmt in the paragraph exlaining -D.

What is your take on this matter?

For the time being, I have taken the former position and marked the
bugreport accordingly ...

Cheers,
Flo

Package: tree
Versioin: 1.7.0-3

Tested with Debian 7 and 8

The package tree does not use LC_TIME

./tree –D always use US time format e.g. Dec instead of Dez like with ./ls –la

Everything else TZ and special characters e.g. ä ö ß are correct and the same
as with ./ls –la

locale show correct LC_TIME set to de_DE.UTF-8

Thx
Tom
