I don't know anything about the release process so I can't comment on that. I didn't test the change I suggested. This could be a security bug because who knows what's getting copied into people's PDF files. I scanned some of the PDF files on my system and found some with non-NUL bytes in the excess, though none that were obviously sensitive.
