Have you tried the intel driver yet? Probably won't make a difference,
but it can't hurt.
Setting up a fresh user account might also be useful, in case the
problem is triggered by your local configuration, e.g. xterm's
Xresources.
Other than that, I'm running out of ideas. :-(
