Package: mutt Version: 1.7.2-1 Severity: minor Tags: upstream The default sort order for the index is documented as "date"; it should be threads. I retrieved the source package for 1.8.0-1; the problem is still present there.
It did occur to me that the example Muttrc (in upstream doc/Muttrc) sets the index sort order to "threads"; perhaps this overrides an in-code default, but IMO the muttrc(5) manpage et al. should document the default as actually realized on the system. I'm attaching a patch to fix the documentation in several places, as it is not very DRY. -- Package-specific info: NeoMutt 20170113 (1.7.2) Copyright (C) 1996-2016 Michael R. Elkins and others.
