I'm taking over this matter as maintainer of this code and discrepances on what needs to be changed exactly. For the .deb variant I added breaks, changed the symbol versions and actually tested the changes. This means that affected binaries in the wrong combination will fail to run completely as they fail to find several symbols. For d-i, versioned breaks (or more correct, versioned relations) are not supported. All affected packages---anna and main-menu---are actually included in the inital installer and not downloaded later, so we just need to update them at the same time.
