I agree it's been broken for almost 20 years. I think apt-get has 20 years left in it yet. > we're not suddenly going to prepend stuff to it - that would actually > break things. So perhaps an option could be added that improves errors to have the progname at the start so other commands and scripts, users of apt-get, can be lobbied to improve their invocation, including home-grown ones.
