And they apparently do (after applying the > hotfix for #850113; I initially though this is related, but it is not). Indeed, upgrading to the latest version picking that fix fixes the problem. So I misdiagnosed the problem. I'm keeping the bug open, since it would be nice to have less python2 and more python3 :).
