It's not the way forward; globus has already been updated for openssl 1.1 and everything that uses it (voms, lcmaps) needs to be on the same version or there will be runtime mayhem. The fix for voms came just a few days ago, but now at least lcmaps-plugins-verify proxy should be fixed as well.
