Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.19.0-3 Severity: wishlist Hi!
Could you please edit NEWS.Debian for the benefit of non-systemd users? It currently says just: * it relies on logind and libpam-systemd which, according to my initial extensive but naive testing, isn't true: everything works fine in typical use (aka using a login manager) even on quite ancient hardware (userspace display access is needed only on ISA and very earliest PCI graphics cards, present in machines hardly even supported by Debian anymore -- plus hurd (not sure what's the coverage in kfreebsd)). Only after ansgar's suggestion, I found out that it's "startx" that fails to work. Thus, could you please add such a clarification? Such as: - * it relies on logind and libpam-systemd + * it relies on logind and libpam-systemd (for startx but not *dm) It'd help explain why the dependency on libpam-systemd is only a Recommends and what are the consequencies of skipping it. This especially matters as systemd-shim is an unmaintained piece of poo that reportedly stopped working even for folks for whom it used to work (that excludes me since the very beginning). Meow!
