- I can't duplicate failure you mention with 6.7-3; 6.7-1 is no longer in any version of Debian. - The remove script you quote does not match the remove script shipped with 6.7-3. The current remove script is also missing an "exit 0" in the xemacs case, but it turns out not to cause a failure. Still this should probably be added for extra safety. The current maintainer script should also handle the presence of emacs 20-23
