Just hit the same problem after adding a valid sources.list entry without
having imported the repo signing key,
and I can confirm it'the behaviour is really awkward - and reading suggestions
that letting the user lose time
until he figures out he has to restarti aptitude would be a valid way out
instead of displaying a proper message
to the user - that just makes me very uncomfortable, it's just not the level of
software quality I have been
expecting around here :)

JFTR, the suggestion was based on the behaviour that I was observing at
the time:

"It doesn't get stuck in "loading cache" -- it just shows errors, and
  one can continue normally."

This seems to be due to changes in behaviour of apt or some strange
interaction, because the relevant sections of aptitude have not changed
in a long time. (I didn't experience the same behaviour because I
couldn't upgrade my computer at the time).

And I didn't say that I didn't want to fix it, just that at least the
user should see some error and have some clue of what was wrong (which I
was seeing at the time) -- so it was not extremely bad, from that
perspective :-)

Anyway, I think that I fixed it now, by not being strict with this kind
of errors (to cope with what I think that it's a new behaviour from
libapt)... I am just not sure if this change will bring other problems,
let's see.

In principle this fix will be included in the next release, so marking
as +pending.

Cheers.
