I can change the Vcs-* fields, but how would the packaging code end up in this 
repo? I'm not a DD. And what's the advantage of having it there instead of in a 
branch on the source repo?

Thanks, that would be helpful. I've uploaded an update that addresses the 
Lintian warnings (it's in a queue ATM).

I can try that on the weekend, although I have no idea about the difference. 
I'm not a regular Debian user and the last time I tried to do something with 
unstable resulted in not being able to do anything.
