It is a few weeks since I last used calibre, and there were no problems then, so I do not know when this bug first appeared. Reinstalled from Debian repository after complete removal with Synaptic twice, no improvement. Installing version 2.72.0 into /opt from calibre website results in a working application, but this download also contains many of the dependencies so means little. System is sid, fully patched yesterday, there are problems today so not fully patched now.
