This represents a change in contrast ratio from 16.5 to 11.9 for the message list.
This low contrast text makes readability much worse, and significantly impacting people with disabilities. In the folder view (which has a darker background) the ratio is worse still. There is no preference item to reverse this change (only the message pane display colour can be changed).
