No. I had to enable "Tray Icon (GNOME Classic)" plugin to get the
tray icon with the current release. Unfortunately command line
window state is ignored, no matter if that plugin is enabled or not.

Interesting, on my (KDE) system, the hidden option is honored when I have the Tray Icon disabled (which means I can't see liferea anywhere). Once I enable the plugin, liferea shows as you describe.

I am afraid from previous discussions upstream that they have a hard time supporting tray icons on non-GNOME desktops. I'll report this issue upstream, but I don't expect a solution soon.
