Comments/Problems:
Although the debian install cd booted fine, I could not get past the
install point "detect & mount CD-ROM." Error: couldn't be mounted.
Interestingly, both Knoppix v4.02 and Ubuntu 5.10 had no problem. This
laptop (VAIO R505) is connected to a "docking bay" via sony's i-link
which, in theory, is 1394 IEEE compliant. It uses a TI chipset & driver
which, again, are supposed to be OHCI compliant.
