Could be, there was a similar report upstream... Can you please post the outputs of cat /proc/1/mountinfo cat /proc/self/cgroup I suspect that with kernel 4.8 systemd mounts th cgroup2 fs instead of old cgroup and this breaks libpam-cgfs and that confuses lxc-* :( See also https://github.com/lxc/lxc/issues/1280 Regards Evgeni
