Please re-open the bug. Even as you state that I "might have" deleted
it . Just to make sure that it wasn't the case, I reinstalled the
package to see what happens -

An apt-file search reveals that apart from apparmor the only
avahi-daemon files are those which it installs.
I cannot purge it as it is one of the recommends of task-desktop and
other packages to do it cleanly just to clear the state .
