Let me explain why I closed the bug report: There is a cost of not closing bug reports, because every time you look at the bug list, you have to scan over the complete list and skip over entries like this one. So, while we could keep this bug report open and wontfix for all eternity, I prefer to not do that. I still keep wontfix bugs open for a while, so it's visible for other users and for giving the bug reporter time to present further arguments. In this case, we didn't have other users demand /dev/root support coming back or Herbert presenting convincing arguments why it would be a good idea to add it back. So at this point, after two years, I conclude it's justified to close and I would hope that Herbert respects this decision.
