The key value of the manpages is the translation. I'm no copyright
expert, but I believe this translation itself has a copyright as well.

Absolutely.

Currently the package has not DEP-5 copyright, so something as simple
as
for i in $(find . -name "*.po"); do grep @ "$i"; done | grep "^# " | sort -u
might do. Especially, if you keep the output of the previous package
for reference, then running this before an upload should easily spot
necessary changes.

I already do something like this for the (upstream) file "AUTHORS", so I can make sure that no translator gets omitted from that file.

It would be great if this could be fixed before the next stable
release.

I'll look into it, but I cannot promise that this gets fixed in time. There's only about a month left before the freeze, and creating a proper DEP-5 copyright file is much more complicated than the above quoted shell magic.

Anyway, thanks for bringing this topic up.

Tobias
