Debian's Chromium package doesn't seem to be able to update the installed extensions. Both the automatic update mechanism and manually triggering "Update extensions now" in chrome://extensions/ don't work. The raw Chromium build from https://download-chromium.appspot.com/ is able to update the extensions.
