/usr/share/mate/applications/defaults.list -> /etc/mate/defaults.list
.
This was easily proved by -
shirish@think-debian:/etc/mate $ ls
shirish@think-debian:/etc/mate $
So as can be seen there is nothing there.
Please fix the above.
