At the moment, the rhytmbox application is the only application (from a normal gnome installation) which make use from the avahi-daemon. I think most people won't run this daemon (memory consumption, boot time, security issues, etc.), but now they are forced to run this. May be you can use an /etc/default/avahi file to let the people choose, if the daemon should be started or not.
