I've re-thought my response here. The terseness of debian-reference is
one of its features and how terse it should be can only be determined by
its maintainer. Perhaps one of its jobs is not to make up for user
misunderstandings or the deficiences of official documentation. So I'll
just hope for a change in the latter.
