You booth don't explain what the different steps are against the normal email accpunt in Google and there it exactely breaks. You can do some logging to see probbaly what's going on under hood like cescribed in the wiki. https://wiki.debian.org/Icedove#Debugging_Icedove_Activity Please do at least some logging and try investigate the situation better.
