Package: base-files Version: 8 In <URL: https://bugs.debian.org/809253 >, the FreedomBox setup have a usability feature request to include instructions to new users to visit the web interface and include the IP addresses of the machine to make it easier for people with console access to connect to the web interface. The reason is that when the system boot for the first time, it is not possible to log in on the console yet as there is no local user created.
But if we modify the content of /etc/issue*, the boxes will be hard to upgrade to the next Debian version as the files are conffiles and any modification done on the FreedomBox is going to block unattended-upgrades from upgrading the system. Is there some way for the FreedomBox project to provide instructions and IP address information on the console while allowing for a smooth upgrade path? -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen
