Hi. Apologies for taking a while. I wanted to understand c++ 11 and unique_ptr and shared_ptr better. It turns out c++ 11 is kind of complicated.
Replacing auto_ptr with unique_ptr will certainly work in this code at least as well as auto_ptr. Figuring out the upstream patch is a bit more complex because I'm not entirely sure how good Centos6's C++ 11 support is. Will have something shortly; a Debian-only patch is trivial.
