Package: debirf Version: 0.36 Severity: wishlist The bug #721190 contains a lot of suggested improvements, but all mixed together in a confusing way.
Part of it was suggestions for additional packages for the rescue profile: Andreas Mohr writes... > Possibly good rescue packages, smallish: > sshfs xmount fusedav > memtester dmidecode vbetool > netcat buffer cpipe > ethtool > hexedit > strace ltrace > perforate fdupes > larger ones: > ntfs-3g partclone > ntpdate > elinks-lite (probably size-preferable to curl and especially to wget) > less relevant ones: > superiotool mii-diag (mii-tool provided by ethtools) My opinions on the above for rescue: * one of netcat or socat would be good * something like wget/curl/elinks-lite would be nice, I love having wget that in d-i(maybe check out they implemented it) * mii-tool is in the net-tools package, if that is interesting great, otherwise maybe add ethtool? * memtester would be good * one of dmidecode or hwinfo would be good * I haven't used partclone, does it do stuff that parted/partimage/gddrescue doesn't? * ntfs-3g makes sense to add * maybe ntpdate could be good, but if you add that maybe having the hwclock command would be good (from util-linux or systemd) * superiotool might be interesting, but them maybe so would other tools like: flashrom, msrtool, inteltool, ectool, nvramtool * I personally don't see a need for the following in the rescue profile, but maybe Andreas can explain more: sshfs, xmount, fusedav, buffer, cpipe, hexedit, strace, ltrace, perforate, fdupes In addition to those I have some suggestions: * ssh (both client and server), see #834476 * rsync * cpuburn * initramfs-tools * cramfsprogs * usbutils * lm-sensors / fancontrol All of the above would need to be measured for how much they would contribute to the image size. I don't think any of them would be good for minimal or xkiosk. -- Matt Taggart tagg...@debian.org
