I have tried using wodim version 9:1.1.11-2 and libcap2:i386 version 1:2.22-1.2 , this failed as before.
Later I re-installed Debian 7.9.0 (Wheezy) DVD1 in an old computer. the command line "wodim --devices" worked there, so did "wodim -scanbus" . This is consistent with my recollections the Wodim worked satisfactorily as part of Wheezy in my old computer. I hope that this is useful. My old computer has since failed to boot, probably it is worn out. with best regards from Richard Betham
