I made another observation, which I unfortunately did not follow, so
I'm not sure if it is related. If I try hard enough I end with a
working (?) installation. Earlier this day I noticed that after some
time clients, kadmin for instance, can't connect to the server
anymore. A network trace showed the client's requests, but the server
was mute. The krb5-kdc process was still running and bound to port 88.
