However, the problem seems to have been fixed in libtiff 4.0.5. Now there's also 4.0.6, which I haven't tried: http://download.osgeo.org/libtiff/
would it be possible to pull testing's 4.0.6 version to stable? It seems to work fine in a Jessie environment, as I figured out when I installed 4.0.6 after 4.0.3 had ruined some 48 bit scans...
