That depends on which package is supposed to ship /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/backports/__init__.py If python-backports-shutil-get-terminal-size should own this file (1.0.0-2 still ships it), it must "take it over" from package python-backports.ssl-match-hostname with Breaks+Replaces. Andreas PS: I slightly doubt that *any* package should ship /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/backports/__init__.py, except maybe something like python-backports-common
